Concerned Scientists To Study Overcrowding Under Obama’s Bus

Millions of Poles, Czechs, and other Eastern Europeans are just some of the latest American allies to fall under the wheels of the Obama bus.

Obama announced on Thursday that the land-based missile defense system previously promised by the Bush administration for deployment in Poland and the Czech Republic is to be scrapped. Perhaps you are asking – do you mean the land-based missile defense system which took decades to develop and perfect, and the one on which we spent billions of dollars? The missile defense system that Reagan envisioned, staffed and funded, despite the constant Liberal critics who snidely called it Star Wars? Yep, that’s the one.

Shortly after Obama’s announcement, Russia’s Putin made a statement expressing admiration for Obama on his brave and positive decision. Meanwhile, the headline of one Polish newspaper was “Betrayal! The U.S. Sold Us To Russia And Stabbed Us In The Back!”. An editorial in one respected Czech newspaper, said: “an ally we rely on has betrayed us, and exchanged us for its own, better relations with Russia, of which we are rightly afraid.”

The Bush administration had claimed that the planned system to be installed in Eastern Europe was meant as a defense against Iran. But the Poles (who took a lot of heat over the decision to allow the sytem) and Czechs were able to read between the lines and saw it also as a protection against a resurgent Soviet threat. Needless to say, Russia was also able to read between the lines, and began to saber rattle last year, threating to “neutralize” any threat to its nuclear deterrent.

But, as the headline of one Czech newspaper declared, “No Radar. Russia Won.” And the question that tortures us is WHY? The Obama administration says that instead of a land-based missile defense, we are going instead to a ship-based system, which Obama says will be “stronger, smarter and swifter” in response to an Iranian threat. But if you read the fine print, you will find this new missile defense is to be phased in over the next two years with the final phase not to be completed until 2020. And that is if the government completes it on time. Meanwhile, nobody on Capitol Hill can seem to speak to this new amazing system and technology.

So in sum, this is what Obama and his team would have us believe (and what the Libs will swallow unquestioningly) : Russia has been warning of its displeasure over America’s plan to put a missile defense system into nearby Eastern Europe. An area that was formerly under Soviet control, but upon which Moscow has absolutely no designs. Absolutely none at all. Obama scraps the land-based system in favor of a “stronger, smarter and swifter” missile defense system and Putin comes forward to praise him.  Makes sense to me.

When America is your friend, who needs enemies?

Those of you who know my foreign policy leanings know that I am against America meddling in the affairs of other countries except in extreme cases. However, I do not consider a missile defense shield to be meddling, and along those lines I highly recommend this recent column by Cliff May:
