Second Texas Governor’s Debate Was Surprisingly Awesome

January 31, 2010

While cool, hip couples with a life may have spent last Friday night at a dinner party or a charity gala, our family eschews such vulgar affairs.  We prefer to spend our nights mired in angst-ridden political discussions, so with that goal clearly in mind, we sponsored a gubernatorial debate viewing party.  To the viewers’ surprise and to the candidates’ discomfort, this latest debate (the last before the March 2nd primary) was no walk in the park which made the whole thing quite entertaining to watch.

For the first time in years, we saw true, unbiased, hard-hitting, bare-lightbulb, take no prisoners, JOURNALISM on display by the debate sponsors, BELO and the Dallas Morning News.  Both of those organizations are in the tank for Perry, but to their credit, showed no favoritism to any candidate.

KBH gave another lackluster performance, due in part to the fact that she had never left the stage from the first debate where she was still attempting to answer the abortion question.  Holy cow!  For such an experienced politician to be tripped up the first time was a shocker, but to struggle with it a second time is bordering on bizarre.  Despite her begging them not to, KBH has recently been endorsed by Bush and Cheney as the “true conservative” in the race … it is unknown right now the damage this has done to her candidacy.

Rick Perry, hair in position, performed better this time than in the last debate, when his backstage handlers must have hung their heads in shame as he yucked it up at his own lame jokes.  But this Friday, he was surprisingly calm as he attempted to explain his betrayal of Texas with the TTC, his crony Enterprise Fund and his dismal record on illegal immigration.  He never even had to answer for his increase in taxes on Texas businesses.  I read yesterday that college Republicans who watched the debate played a drinking game where they had to take a shot if Perry blamed the federal government for something.  Which makes one wonder – – How many spent the night driving the porcelain bus down Perry’s beloved TTC?

Debra Medina, the only true conservative on the stage, performed even better than she did in the first debate, which most believed she won.  It is surprisingly easy not to get tripped up when you have strong beliefs and convictions on the role of government.  You simply tell the truth and oila!, you come out smelling like a rose.  Medina is strongly supported by tea partiers like myself and has strong support among libertarians.  However, Medina is in a race for governor not so much against Perry and KBH, but against time.  Many conservative voters simply don’t know about her, and most enthusiastically support her once they do learn of her candidacy and understand her positions.

Slick Rick has a good-old-boy Texas charm to him that is attractive, but hopefully not enough to fool the voters into four more years with this RINO.  The election of Obama is enough to make you lose faith in humanity’s ability to look past the high-gloss finish, but primaries typically bring out a more informed voter.  We’ll just have to have faith in our fellow Texans to educate themselves before March 2nd.

For those of you that missed Friday’s debate, you can watch it online at the following…

And for those of you who missed the first debate, let me first say — Get your asses in gear Texans, this is important!!  You can watch the first debate online here…

Chavez, Who Once Said “Comrade Obama Makes Castro Look Conservative”, Cracks Down On Pesky Protesters

January 31, 2010

Hollywood Hugo has his hands full lately as he continues to systematically eliminate any voices of dissent in the Venezualan media.  However, he has run into a little pushback.  From the AP:

Police fired tear gas to chase off thousands of students demonstrating in the capital Thursday, a fifth day of protests against President Hugo Chavez for pressuring cable and satellite TV providers to drop an opposition channel…

University students have taken to the streets daily since Sunday, after government pressure led cable TV services to drop Radio Caracas Television International, which has long been a critic of Chavez’s socialist policies…

Critics of the government say Chavez is responsible for domestic problems ranging from double-digit inflation to violent crime to rolling power blackouts.

The government says RCTV was removed for refusing to comply with a new rule requiring media outlets to televise mandatory programming, including Chavez’s speeches.

Chavez accused students of trying to stir up violence as a means of destabilizing his government.  “There are some attempting to set fire to the country,” Chavez said in a televised address Thursday.  “What are they seeking? Death.”

Global Warming Fraud Exposed AGAIN

January 24, 2010

According to the American Thinker, the British Climategate scandal was the tip of the iceberg…

Not surprisingly, the blatant corruption exposed at Britain’s premiere climate institute was not contained within the nation’s borders.  Just months after the Climategate scandal broke, a new study has uncovered compelling evidence that our government’s principal climate centers have also been manipulating worldwide temperature data in order to fraudulently advance the global warming political agenda.

Not only does the preliminary report indict a broader network of conspirators, but it also challenges the very mechanism by which global temperatures are measured, published, and historically ranked.

Last Thursday, Certified Consulting Meteorologist Joseph D’Aleo and computer expert E. Michael Smith appeared together on KUSI TV to discuss the Climategate — American Style scandal they had discovered.  This time out, the alleged perpetrators are the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS).

NOAA stands accused by the two researchers of strategically deleting cherry-picked, cooler-reporting weather observation stations from the temperature data it provides the world through its National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)…And even more lies have been uncovered as we find out from the UK Times Online that the UN wrongly linked global warming to natural disasters

And another story exposing the enviro-frauds…The United Nations climate science panel faces new controversy for wrongly linking global warming to an increase in the number and severity of natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods.

It based the claims on an unpublished report that had not been subjected to routine scientific scrutiny — and ignored warnings from scientific advisers that the evidence supporting the link too weak.  The report’s own authors later withdrew the claim because they felt the evidence was not strong enough.

The claim by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), that global warming is already affecting the severity and frequency of global disasters, has since become embedded in political and public debate.  It was central to discussions at last month’s Copenhagen climate summit, including a demand by developing countries for compensation of $100 billion (£62 billion) from the rich nations blamed for creating the most emissions…

Glacier Scientist: I knew data hadn’t been verified

The scientist behind the bogus claim in a Nobel Prize-winning UN report that Himalayan glaciers will have melted by 2035 last night admitted it was included purely to put political pressure on world leaders.

Dr Murari Lal also said he was well aware the statement, in the 2007 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), did not rest on peer-reviewed scientific research…

A Creepy “Blade Runner” Future For The Brits

January 24, 2010

Is there a single alpha male left in Britain?  This is the future for the American sheeple too if we civil libertarians do not fight the Progressives at every encroachment.  From the UK Guardian:

Police Plan To Use Military-Style Spy Drones

Police in the UK are planning to use unmanned spy drones, controversially deployed in Afghanistan, for the ”routine” monitoring of antisocial motorists, protesters, agricultural thieves and fly-tippers, in a significant expansion of covert state surveillance.

The arms manufacturer BAE Systems, which produces a range of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for war zones, is adapting the military-style planes for a consortium of government agencies led by Kent police…

Our Taxpayer Dollars “Stimulating” The Bank Accounts of Watermelon Environmentalists

January 20, 2010

The great unwashed may be out of a job, but we need not worry about the fate of the socialists in the environmental movement – – – they take care of their own…ON OUR DIME.  And to think the Dems are talking about a second stimulus — ooh, I can’t wait!!  From the Wall Street Journal

Michael Mann’s Climate Stimulus
A case study in ‘one job’ saved

As for stimulus jobs—whether “saved” or “created”—we thought readers might be interested to know whose employment they are sustaining.  More than $2.4 million is stimulating the career of none other than Penn State climate scientist Michael Mann.

Mr. Mann is the creator of the famous hockey stick graph, which purported to show some 900 years of minor temperature fluctuations, followed by a spike in temperatures over the past century.  His work, which became a short-term sensation when seized upon by Al Gore, was later discredited.  Mr. Mann made the climate spotlight again last year as a central player in the emails from the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit, which showed climatologists massaging data, squelching opposing views, and hiding their work from the public…

Even The Uber-Leftists At TIME Are Asking: What’s With This PC Nonsense?

January 20, 2010

You know we are in the twilight zone when TIME magazine (the same libs that gave us Ben Bernanke as the 2009 Person of the Year) is asking the hard questions…

The Fort Hood Report: Why No Mention of Islam?

The U.S. military’s just-released report into the Fort Hood shootings spends 86 pages detailing various slipups by Army officers but not once mentions Major Nidal Hasan by name or even discusses whether the killings may have had anything to do with the suspect’s view of his Muslim faith. And as Congress opens two days of hearings on Wednesday into the Pentagon probe of the Nov. 5 attack that left 13 dead, lawmakers want explanations for that omission. (See TIME’s photo-essay “The Troubled Journey of Major Hasan.”)

John Lehman, a member of the 9/11 commission and Navy Secretary during the Reagan Administration, says a reluctance to cause offense by citing Hasan’s view of his Muslim faith and the U.S. military’s activities in Muslim countries as a possible trigger for his alleged rampage reflects a problem that has gotten worse in the 40 years that Lehman has spent in and around the U.S. military. The Pentagon report’s silence on Islamic extremism “shows you how deeply entrenched the values of political correctness have become,” he told TIME on Tuesday. “It’s definitely getting worse, and is now so ingrained that people no longer smirk when it happens.”…
